Take Action
Now that you've learned the problem of plastic pollution and some possible solutions, now is the time to take action!

Here are some ideas to help you "Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution!"
1. Take a personal throw-away plastic waste audit: for _______ day(s), collect
all throw-away plastic you use and instead of actually throwing the
plastic away, keep all the pieces in a bag or container.
A. At the end of your specified time, count the individual pieces of
plastic trash you have collected. Is the amount more or less
than you expected?
B. Sort the plastic pieces by use-- straws, cups, bags, wrappers,
utensils etc.
C. What types of throw-away trash do you have the most of in your collection?
- What non-plastic alternatives can you use to replace this plastic waste?
D. Will this audit help you reduce your use of throw-away plastic? If so, how?
2. Research events and activities with environmental organizations:

3. Write postcards or letters to government officials and/or businesses expressing your concern about the damage plastic pollution is causing.

C. Encourage your school, work, church, business, etc. to install
water-fill stations.
